FAQs
Each dog is unique and each Labrador's exercise needs will vary based on their age, health, and genetics. That said, there are still some broad guidelines that it's a good idea to follow. Generally, an hour of exercise a day is a good rule of thumb for a healthy adult Labrador.
What color Labrador is most expensive? ›
Show Labrador puppies often range between $1800-$2000. A field pup could cost less, at around $1500. One more note, a Chocolate Lab could come with a higher price tag because the coat color is comparably rarer than that of a black or yellow.
What is the smartest lab color? ›
If you want your dog to be your best friend, then you will want the smartest one, right? But the short answer is no; a Labrador retriever's intelligence is not based on the color of their coat.
What is the 5 minute rule for Labrador exercise? ›
The 5-minute rule states that a puppy should only exercise for 5 minutes per month of their age – so, for example, a 4-month-old puppy should only exercise for 20 minutes.
What happens if you don't walk your Labrador? ›
Your dog may be lethargic and less responsive than usual—this is especially true if they are used to being walked daily. They may also become more aggressive or territorial in the home environment without the stimulation associated with walking on a leash (which helps them stay focused).
How long can a Labrador be left alone? ›
A full workday may be too much for Labs, who crave companionship and need plenty of exercise, but an easygoing Lab can usually manage about six hours alone.
What color lab is the calmest? ›
Again, calmness depends on breeding, not color. More yellow Labs have been bred to be therapy and service dogs, which means they have been bred for calmness. Many yellow Labs come from English Labrador Retriever pedigrees, as well. English Labs are calmer than American Labs.
Which color Labrador is the healthiest? ›
Researchers found that the life expectancy of chocolate Labrador retrievers is significantly lower than their black and yellow counterparts. The UK study looked at the vet health records of 33,320 United Kingdom-based Labradors of all colors.
Which color Labrador lives the longest? ›
You may hear that chocolate labs live a shorter life and have many health conditions that increase as they age. Unfortunately, that's entirely true — their lives are not as long. They may only live up to 10 years of age. Meanwhile, yellow and black labradors survive 10% longer than their brown-coated counterparts.
What color Lab is the most aggressive? ›
Labrador retrievers with chocolate-coloured coats are anecdotally considered to be less trainable and more hyperactive and aggressive than their black or yellow peers.
You'll probably be cleaning up after your Lab much more when this happens, perhaps even daily. It's also worth noting that there's no difference between Chocolate Labs, Yellow Labs, and Black Labs. While the amount of shedding can vary between individual dogs, each coat colour tends to shed equally.
What is the prettiest Lab color? ›
Yellow Labrador Retrievers are the most popular color among the breed, and for a good reason. They have a warm and welcoming personality, which makes them excellent family dogs. Their bright and sunny coat is simply breathtaking, and they are always a sight for sore eyes.
Is a 2 hour walk too long for a Labrador? ›

How to tire out a Labrador? ›
Put his nose to work by hiding his treats around the house. Sniffing is a great way to tire a dog out, as it requires a good amount of concentration. Take him out and let him swim in a pond, or let him romp at the dog park. Last but not least, don't forget to enroll him in a basic training class!
How far should you walk a 10 year old Labrador? ›
Generally speaking, however, a healthy, adult Labrador needs an hour of exercise every day. If your dog is the relaxed kind, 45 minutes will do, while a really energetic dog could work out up to 1.5 hours without tiring.
Is walking my dog 2 times a day enough? ›
In general, the daily walk for the average dog may be anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes, up to twice a day, while more active dogs may need up to one hour or two. Keep in mind, however, that the quality of the walk can be much more effective than the quantity or length of the walk.
